How it works

We review the invention and run a patentability search

The provisional or complete specification is drafted and filed

Examination is requested and the deadlines are tracked

Timeline

Provisional filed in 7 to 10 days; complete within 12 months. Government processing times are outside our control; we track and follow up on every application.

If you skip it

Penalty exposure: No penalty for not filing, but public disclosure before filing can destroy novelty. If the complete specification is not filed within 12 months of the provisional, the application is treated as abandoned.

Frequently asked questions

Should I file a provisional application?

Yes, if the invention is still being refined. It secures your priority date at lower cost and gives you 12 months to file the complete specification.

What fee concessions are available?

Individuals, DPIIT-recognised startups, small entities including Udyam-registered MSMEs, and educational institutions pay about one fifth of the standard fee. Startups can also choose expedited examination.

How long does a patent take?

Normal examination can take a few years. Expedited examination for eligible startups and MSMEs can bring a decision much sooner.
