Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between PTRC and PTEC?

PTRC is the employer’s registration to deduct tax from salaries and pay it to the state. PTEC is enrolment for the business or individual paying its own professional tax.

Do I need it if I have no employees?

In many states the business and its directors or partners still need PTEC enrolment. PTRC is needed once you pay salaries above the state’s threshold.

How much is the tax?

It depends on the state and salary slab, and cannot exceed Rs 2,500 per person per year. Karnataka, for example, charges up to Rs 2,400 per year.
