Income tax notice? We read it, reply and follow up

Intimations, defective return notices, scrutiny and reassessment each need a different response. We identify what the department is asking, reconcile your return with AIS and Form 26AS, and file a documented reply on the e-filing portal before the deadline.

Frequently asked questions

How quickly must I respond?

A defective return notice usually allows 15 days and an intimation proposing an adjustment allows 30 days. Scrutiny and reassessment notices state their own dates. Act as soon as you receive one.

Do the section numbers change under the new law?

The Income-tax Act, 2025 applies from 1 April 2026 and renumbers these provisions; for example, reassessment notices now fall under sections 280 and 281. Notices for earlier years may still cite the 1961 Act. We work under whichever law governs your year.

Is every notice a scrutiny?

No. Many are automated intimations or requests to confirm information. We tell you plainly what kind of notice you have.
